3D Printable Miniatures AI Guide
3D Printable Miniatures AI Guide
Miniature 3D printing has democratized tabletop gaming and custom figurine creation. HiPtah generates character and creature models that serve as starting points for miniature production — either as-is for quick prints or as reference geometry for detailed sculpting.
Target Audience
- Tabletop miniature painters collecting custom pieces
- TTRPG players wanting unique character miniatures
- Board game designers prototyping game pieces
- Miniature artists exploring character concepts before full sculpt
Print Requirements for Miniatures
| Print Technology | Layer Height | Minimum Feature Size | HiPtah Output | |-----------------|--------------|-----------------------|---------------| | Resin (SLA/DLP) | 25-50 microns | 0.5mm | Ideal — fine detail survives | | FDM | 100-300 microns | 1.0mm | Needs simplification | | MSLA | 50-100 microns | 0.7mm | Good starting point |
Workflow
- Generate your miniature — Write a detailed prompt that includes scale reference. "Heroic fantasy warrior character, 32mm scale (standard tabletop), dynamic pose, visible facial features, detailed costume elements, clean geometry for 3D printing."
- Export as OBJ or GLB — Convert to STL using Blender or online converters.
- Prepare in Meshmixer or Fusion 360 — Fix non-manifold geometry, hollow the model, add drain holes for resin printing.
- Slice in your slicer — Chitubox, Lychee, or Bambu Studio. Set correct layer height for your printer.
- Print and cure — Follow manufacturer guidance for your resin type.
Miniature Scale Standards
| Game System | Figure Scale | HiPtah Prompt Addition | |-------------|--------------|----------------------| | D&D/Pathfinder | 28-32mm | "Standard heroic scale, 32mm figure height" | | Warmachine | 32mm | "Warma scale, heroic proportion, dynamic pose" | | O-scale (railways) | 4mm per foot | "O scale miniature, highly detailed at small size" | | HeroClix | 40mm | "Large heroic scale, exaggerated features for visibility" | | Custom/Spec | Any | "Custom scale, [X]mm figure height, [style] style" |
Style Recommendations for Miniatures
| Style | Characteristics | Print Recommendation | |-------|-----------------|---------------------| | Heroic fantasy | Exaggerated proportions, clear silhouette | Resin — captures fine detail | | Historical | Accurate proportions, period details | Resin for detail, FDM for large pieces | | Chibi/cute | Super-deformed, large heads | Both — simpler geometry prints well | | Horror | Dark details, texture-rich surfaces | Resin — captures texture detail | | Mecha | Mechanical detail, panel lines | Resin — fine mechanical parts |
Post-Processing Tips
- Resin — Cure fully, then wash in IPA. Wet sand joints smooth. Prime with Vallejo primer.
- FDM — Sand layer lines, fill with Bondo, prime. Consider vapor smoothing for PLA.
- Painting — HiPtah outputs have basic materials. Prime before painting for best results.
